It took three tries, but Toronto got their 1st home win of the season after defeating the mighty Colorado Rockies. Toronto looked dominate from the start, taking a 2-0 lead in the first period and didn’t look back, outshooting the Rockies 33-20, on their way to a 6-1 win. Doug Gilmour led the way with his first career hat trick, adding an assist for a 4 point night. Joe Cirella also had a 4 point night with a goal and 3 assists. While not overly busy, Dominik Hasek made the saves when needed to get the win.

The Leafs were back at it the next night at home against the LA Kings and, for the 2nd consecutive night, dominated from the start. However, the end results were different this time. The Leafs outshot the Kings 35-12 but somehow the Kings escaped with the 4-3 win. Dominik Hasek, who has been sharp early on in the season, had an off game and perhaps should’ve been given the night off. Coach Dave King figured with such a light load against the Rockies that he would be fresh against the Kings. Instead, it’s likely he became bored with limited shots and cold whenever was tested. Hasek admitted after the game that perhaps he wasn’t as focused because of limited action but made no excuses other then he just had a poor game.

The Buffalo Sabres roll into town tonight looking to avenge a 4-2 loss to the Leafs earlier this season. Coach King confirmed Hasek will get the nod once again citing Hasek should still be feeling fresh after facing a combined 32 shots over the last 2 games. The Sabres were missing Michel Goulet and Laurie Boschman last time but are coming to Toronto healthy which should give both teams a good gauge on how they match up against each other and likely will battle it out this season for top spot in the conference
