It took five games, but the Tampa Bay Lightning finally gave their fans a victory on home ice with a thrilling 6-4 win over the Quebec Nordiques.

With the game tied 2-2 going into the 3rd period, the Lightning exploded for 4 goals in the frame and hung on for the win. Andrew McBain played his best game of the seasons scoring 2 goals on 7 shots taking the 1st star of the game. Enforcer Craig Martin also had a night to remember scoring his first 2 goals of his career while playing 4th line minutes and collecting the 3rd star. All in all, it was a team effort despite the many trade rumors swirling the team including forward Dan Quinn, who was picked up in a deal for Kevin Dineen earlier in the season

“I can’t really control what goes on behind the scenes,” explained Quinn. “I’ve been through this a few times now but all I can say is  I’ve enjoyed my time here so far. The fans have been great and I’m just going out there trying to compete as hard as I can.”

Lightning GM Brandon Clark has been as active as he’s ever been as he tries to set the franchise up long term but also short term. It seems likely many of the original players selected in the expansion draft will have new homes by the end of the season. Don’t let the current record fool you. There is much work to be done here in Tampa.
