All Quiet on the Western Front

Although it was a very active trade deadline that saw a lot of players dealt to new teams, the San Jose Sharks remained rather silent.  In a week that has seen a lot of chaos behind the scenes and the city of San Jose reeling from rumours of their team possibly being one of the franchises leaving and them no longer having hockey, and the GM a no show yet to address it, fans have been on edge.  And now with playoffs within reach, and the Sharks GM famous for flipping and a flopping, many were expecting a tirade of trades.  Whether they be good, bad or ugly.

But none came.  The team did admit their GM was involved with the deadline talks and that he did have ‘multiple lines in the water’ but when it came down to it, the team didn’t feel it really made sense to throw caution into the wind and go for it.  The team decided earlier this season that they were just not in a happy place and that this season really wasn’t going very well.  But the feeling is that the nucleus is getting stronger and that in a couple seasons maybe this team will be in a better spot.

“And really if we did make the playoffs we would be almost guaranteed to play Colorado.  We figured that would not go well.  And (GM Harrison) keeps asking ‘Have you ever seen a Shark climb a mountain?’ when confronted about going for it.” a Shark insider offered.

And with so much turmoil going on behind the scenes, is it better for this team to just sit back and wait? Is this the end of Al Harrison as GM?  Will the team abandon ship and land in greener pastures?  What will next season bring for this team?  New leadership? New team name?  New city?

One thing is for sure, trying to figure out the mindset of the teams GM is like lighting a skunk on fire.  You’d have to be crazy to try it and the stench would be unbearable!
