Penguins Eaten by Sharks. Burke Has Off Night

The Penguins were desperate for a win and just couldn't get it. Despite playing well, they just couldn't seal the deal. Here's the game recap;

In the 1st period, the Sharks opened the scoring at 1:23 when Axelsson scored his 16th of the season from Bure and Weekes. At 5:32, the Penguins tied the game when Amonte ripped home his 21st of the season with a powerplay goal from Zalapski and Young. At 6:45, the Sharks recaptured the lead when Bure scored his 20th of the season from Emma and Tremblay. At 8:43, the Penguins answered once again as Lafontaine scored his 24th of the season from Gonchar and Young. At 18:20, the Sharks took a 3-2 lead when Dackell scored his 8th of the season from Sykora and Churla. That would be the end of the offence and the Penguins would enter the intermission trailing 3-2.

In the 2nd period, the Sharks took a 4-2 lead at 6:43when Sykora scored his 8th of the season from Dackell and Churla. In a period where the teams would only exchange 10 shots between them, that would be the end of the offence and the Penguins would enter the 3rd trailing 4-2.

In the 3rd period, the Penguins made it 4-3 at 5:05 when Lafontaine scored his 2nd of the game from Finley and Zalapski. Just 49 seconds later, the Sharks reclaimed their two-goal lead when Churla scored his 5th of the season from Carter and Wilkinson to make it 5-3. 31 seconds after that, the Penguins answered and made it 5-4 as Gonchar scored his 4th of the season from Arnott and Pederson. Then, at 14:13, Amonte scored his 2nd of the game to tie it up 5-5. Once again, the Sharks responded quickly, as just 15 seconds later Sykora scored his 2nd of the game from Dobbin and Nemirovsky to give the Sharks a 6-5 lead.

Despite the Penguins' best efforts, they would be unable to find the back of the net again and would lose this one by a score of 6-5. The loss, despite outshooting the Sharks 42-20, has really crushed the Penguins chances of claiming home ice advantage.

Next up, the Penguins will face the streaking Boston Bruins at home in Pittsburgh.
