Penguins Fall to Whalers. Winning Streak Snapped at Four.
It would have been nice to increase their streak to 5, but the Penguins just need to focus on their next big game. Here's the game recap;
In the 1st period, the Penguins made it 1-0 at 1:18 when Malakhov scored his 16th of the season from Roberts and Finley. At 10:01, the Whalers tied the game 1-1 when Robitaille scored his 25th of the season with a powerplay goal from Lemieux and Suter. The teams would enter the 2nd tied 1-1.
In the 2nd period, the Whalers made it 2-1 just 50 seconds into the period when Reichel scored his 20th of the season from Robitaille and Burridge. That would be all for the 2nd and the Penguins would enter the 3rd trailing 2-1.
In the 3rd period, the Whalers made it 3-1 at 3:09 when Burridge scored his 30th of the season with a powerplay goal from Baron and Reichel. Then, at 19:43, Reichel scored his 2nd of the game, burying the Penguins, on a goal assisted by Robitaille and Burridge to make it 4-1.
4-1 would be the final in this one-sided affair. Despite the final score, Ranford played well and offered Burke some much-needed rest. Next up, the Penguins will play the Florida Panthers in Florida with Burke back between the pipes. |
