Penguins Douse Flames. Won 7 of Their Last 10.
In a surprise, Wendell Young started back-to-back starts after it was announced that Sean Burke would get the nod in this one. Can't argue with the results however. Let's recap;
In the 1st period, the Penguins got on the board first at just 1:37 with a powerplay goal from Kovalev, his 7th, that was assisted by Amonte and Elynuik. Then at 5:00 Elynuik put home a powerplay goal of his own that was his 9th of the season with Kovalev and Amonte getting the assists. The powerplay success continued for the Penguins at 10:43 as Perrault scored his 1st of the season from Jagr and Gonchar. 3-0 Penguins after the 1st.
The 2nd period was a bit of a snooze fest with both teams amassing an anemic 11 shots between them. The Penguins did get the lone goal of the period at 15:20 when Kovalev scored his 2nd of the game and 8th of the season with Joseph getting the assist. The Penguins would take a 4-0 lead into the 3rd period.
In the 3rd period, the Flames would finally break Young's shutout at 13:19 when Berezan scored his 2nd of the season from Allison and Grimakn to make it 4-1. The Penguins would shit the door though at 14:40 as Turgeon scored his 7th of the season from Perrault and Miller to make it 5-1. That would be the final.
Young was stellar making 20 saves on 21 shots. Next up the Penguins will have a day of rest before they take on the Blackhawks in Pittsburgh. |
