Penguins Rally to Beat Rangers Late. Take Stranglehold of Final Playoff Spot. 


Well that was a close one. In a game where New York started their 3rd string goalie yet again, this one was too close for comfort. Here's the game recap;


In the 1st period, the Rangers got on the board first just 18 seconds into this one when Stevens scored his 11th of the season from McLlwain and Lidstrom to make it 1-0. Then at 17:36 the Penguins answered and tied the game 1-1 as Kypreos scored his 18th of the season with a powerplay goal from Kovalev and Joseph. The teams would enter the 2nd period tied. 


In the 2nd period, the Rangers re-took the lead at 5:11 when Stevens scored his 2nd of the game from Andersson and Lidstrom. The Penguins then again tied the game at 5:32 when Lumme scored his 12th of the season. The Rangers again re-took the lead at 8:00 when Andersson scored his 24th of the season from Lidstrom and McLlwain to make it 3-2. The Penguins entered the 3rd period trailing 3-2. 


In the 3rd period, the Rangers made it 4-2 at 1:25 when Stevens converted his hat trick unassisted. The Penguins answered at 3:34 when Kovalev scored his 23rd of the season from Amonte and Finley to make it 4-3. Then at 10:46 the Penguins tied the game as Keskinen scored his 21st of the season from Elynuik and Malakhov. And finally at 15:12 the Penguins got their first lead of the game when Elynuik scored his 17th of the season with a powerplay goal from Keskinen and Malakhov to take a 5-4 lead. The Rangers were unable to solve Burke again and the Penguins hung on for a huge 5-4 victory.
