Kolzig Shines Against Devils

The New York Rangers faced off against the best team in the Wales Conference last night. The New Jersey Devils are 31-13-2 and have owned the Rangers going into last night with a record of 3-0-0. All the scoring happened in the 1st period with Nicklas Lidstrom getting things started with his 9th goal of the season. The Devils answered back less than a minute later with Laurie Boschman’s 26th of season. Exactly 3 minutes later, the Rangers would put the game away for good with a goal from Vyacheslav Kozlov and just for good measure Rob Ray scored his 8th goal of the season just 40 seconds later. That was more than enough for goalie Olaf Kolzig. He faced 15 shots in the 1st period and stopped all but 1. He only faced 12 shots the rest of the game and turned them all away. There will most certainly be some bumps along the way but Kolzig appears to be improving with each start and the Rangers’ brass are confident they have found their franchise goalie.
