Devils Win a
Squeaker VS Islanders
It has been a few years since the New York Islanders were a dominant force in the NFHL. Many teams probably had mostly forgotten about them, or were lulled into a false sense of security (or superiority). It might be time to revise that thinking. The Islanders are neck and neck with the Montreal Canadiens for 8th in the Wales, boasting a couple very good young players (notably Yashin and Zhitnik) and boast some solid veterans. Fuhr can steal a game, and Lawton may get some All-Star votes. And it pays to remember the Islanders still boast one of the best coaches EVER in Pat Burns. Count the Devils as one of the teams that won't be sleepwalking into another game against the Islanders. While the Devils won 2-1, requiring sudden death overtime at that, the game was as close as close could be and needed the heroics of reigning MVP, Laurie Boschman to close out the game on the Devils 1st shot of overtime. The Devils goalie was forced to handle 5 Islanders shots before the game mercifully ended. The Devils will get a day off before facing the upstart Pittsburgh Penguins for the final time this season, with the series tied 2-2. |
