MINNY QUIET AT THE DEADLINE Coming into this year's trade deadline, the North Stars were looking to make a move and bring in a top 6 forward and, perhaps, bolster their defense. But with the expansion draft looming, many teams were very hesitant to make to many moves with their rosters already set. Some moves that were made to bolster the team's depth. Dale Hunter was acquired to solidify the 4th line and so far he has not disappointed for the $1 it cost to bring him in as he sits on a 2 game point streak. The largest move leading up to the deadline was the acquisition of Calle Johansson. A defenseman GM Glenn Merkir was looking to bring in not only for this year's playoff run, but also for the long term. Calle had just signed a 4 year extension at a very affordable $2.5 million price tag. Calle has found a home and is on a point per game pace with 12 points in 12 games. The last move prior to the deadline was a trade that plucked Iiro Jarvi from the Blues to solidify the 2nd line center roll. Jarvi has been on fire as of late with just over a point per game pace and riding a 8 game point streak of his own. The big question is will the North Stars be able to compete with the big boys this year and take the pressure of playoff hockey? GM Glenn Merkir likes his chances leading into this year's 1st round as it is already determined it will be the Red Wings. Its just a matter of which team will get home ice advantage with just over a dozen games to go in the regular season. Stay tuned! |
