We are just 3/4 of the way through the season and already two teams have clinched playoff berths. Both the Colorado Rockies and Winnipeg Jets clinched post season berths tonight thanks to big wins. In Pittsburgh, the Jets taught the Penguins a lesson, crushing them 7-1 to punch their ticket. Brendan Shanahan, Al MacInnis, Valeri Zelepukin and Vladimir Konstantinov each had a goal and assist for Winnipeg, with Gerard Gallant, Kris King and Jari Kurri also scoring. Esa Keskinen scored for Pittsburgh. In Denver, the Rockies beat the Quebec Nordiques 8-4 for their playoff clinching victory. Brian Leetch had 2 goals and 2 assists, Brett Hull had 2 goals and Benoit Brunet had 3 assists for Colorado. Vincent Damphousse, Sergio Momesso, Derek King, and Ron Francis scored the other Colorado goals. Joe Sakic scored twice for Quebec, with Normand Leveille and Pat Verbeek also scoring. Colorado maintains their single point lead over Winnipeg in the race for conference and league superiority, though the Jets have 2 games in hand. | |||||||
