Only a Big Three in Campbell? | ||||||||

For most of the start of this season, we have been going on about how it is murderer's row of the top 4 teams in the league playing in the same conference. But perhaps we were talking too soon? Maybe it is just three? The Detroit Red Wings have fallen off the pace recently and, with tonight's 2nd straight loss, now sit 6 points back of the Jets and 8 points back of the top ranked Colorado Rockies. However, they now find themselves fending off the Minnesota North Stars, just 1 point behind. But back to the game, the New Jersey Devils proved to be too much for the Wings tonight, scoring 4 times in the first period en route to a 6-2 win. Peter Zezel scored twice, with Murray Craven, Peter Bondra and Laurie Boschman each scoring a goal and assist. Esa Tikkanen scored the other New Jersey goal. Carey Wilson and Denis Savard scored for Detroit. The Devils, for their part, are now on top of the Wales Conference with a 12-3-3 record, one point up on the Hartford Whalers. |
