The NFHL Game of the Night

Rockies Leave Door Wide Open

The Colorado Rockies stumbled tonight in their game against the Detroit Red Wings, dropping a 3-2 decision and leaving the door wide open for the Winnipeg Jets to step in and snap Colorado's 3-year run as President's Trophy champions. Jocelyn Lemieux scored his 8th goal of the season with under 5 minutes left in the game to break a 2-2 tie and secure Detroit's victory. Paul Cavallini and Doug Smith scored the other goals, while Brett Hull and Steve Yzerman scored the Colorado goals. Colorado still has a one point lead on the Jets, but Winnipeg now has 2 games in hand.  Winnipeg has also won 4 straight and can now control their own destiny.  Detroit, for their part, put a stranglehold on 5th place in the conference.  They have a 4 point lead on Edmonton, but give up 2 games in hand, though the Oilers do hold the tie break advantage if it comes down to that.
