Wales Playoff Match Ups Set

On the penultimate day of the 1995 regular season, the Wales Conference post season is finally set.  There were just two battles left to be determined, the top see and the 4th seed.  In the case of the top seed, the Hartford Whalers beat the Buffalo Sabres 6-4 to claim their first Wales Conference regular season championship. Mario Lemieux and Mark Tinordi each had a goal and assist and Frederik Olausson had 3 assists for Hartford.  Luc Robitaille, Bob Mongrain, Ray Ferraro and Gary Suter scored the other goals.  Lyndon Byers had a goal and 2 assists for Buffalo, with Warren Babe, Tom Fitzgerald and Bob Errey also scoring. This means the Whalers will get the Quebec Nordiques in the first round for the second consecutive season, with the Whalers hoping to erase the memories of their sweep at the hands of Quebec last year.  The New Jersey Devils will get the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Florida Panthers will host the Pittsburgh Penguins. The final matchup was already set with Philly and Boston to do battle, but with  tonight's results, the Flyers get 4th place and home ice advantage after beating the New York Islanders 4-2.  Eric Weinrich, Eric Lindros, Steve Duchesne and Claude Loiselle scored for Philly.  Bred Hedican and Darrin Shannon scored for the Islanders. With this, there is only race left to be decided on the final day. THe San Jose Sharks will host the Calgary Flames and, with a win, will claim 8th in the Campbell.  A loss or tie means the Blues take 8th and will face the Winnipeg Jets in the 1st round.
