Kings Win Big Against Flames; Still Get Eliminated

The race for the 8th and final playoff spot in the Campbell Conference is now down to 2 teams.  Yet, the team in 9th place isn't one of those teams.  The LA Kings are in 9th place and were involved in a barn burner with the Calgary Flames, winning 8-6.  However, with St. Louis upsetting the Winnipeg Jets, tonight, the Kings end up eliminated from playoff participation. Marc Habscheid had 2 goals and 2 assists for LA, with Ron Sutter and Peter Douris each adding a goal and 2 assists.  Christian Ruuttu, Luc Robitaille, Stephane Richer and Zarley Zalapski each added a goal and assist to round out the scoring. Dave Pasin equaled Habscheid's 2 goals and 2 assists, with Mark Hunter also scoring twice, with Mark Kumpel and Perry Berezan also scoring for the Flames. The Kings jump over San Jose into 9th place, but, with just 2 games left to play, they are unable to catch the Blues, who are 4 points ahead and hold the tie break advantage.  However, the Sharks still have a chance, but the Blues will just need a tie from either San Jose or themselves to clinch that final playoff spot.  A St. Louis win or San Jose loss in either of both teams' final 3 games will also clinch a St. Louis playoff party.
