FLORIDA CATCHING UP TO THE FLYERS

What once was thought impossible, the Florida Panthers are slowly gaining on the Philadelphia Flyers. Tonight's game would be a big 4 point swing as the Panthers went into Philly and came out with a 2-1 victory in overtime. This was, without a doubt, a playoff type game as the shots were just 23-22 in favor of Florida.

In fact, the first and the second period would see zero scoring at all by either teams and only 3 penalties called in the first. The teams were playing not to lose for sure, and the second was a combined 10 shots from the two teams.

The Flyers would open the scoring finally in the 3rd on the PP with a goal at 10:19. However with just 2 minutes left, Hawerchuk scored his 29th to tie the game and send it to overtime. There the Flyers took one shot, saved by Roy, then Thomas scored on Florida's 1 shot, his 24th of the season and making the team victorious.

Patrick Roy took home the win moving his record to 27-17-7 on the season. He now sits in 2nd in SVPCT, only behind backup Reese in NJ.

Special teams was another game with a -1. Not a good trend to have, but they have been winning these as of late. The PP went 0-2 while the PK was 1-3 on the night.

1st Star - Patrick Roy - 21 saves on 22 shots

2nd Star - Larry Murphy - 2 assists, +2, 25 TOI

3rd Star - Dale Hawerchuk - 1 goal, +2, 4 shots, 2 hits

The club is finally healed. It was announced after the game that Mark Recchi would be back, and finally have a full squad. They are currently on a 13-1 run.

HOUSTON AEROS
