STRUGGLING PANTHERS TAKE IT OUT ON SABRES After a dismal 12 game stretch, some trades were made and the NEW Panthers were ready to deliver. Well the first night looked good, even if it was against Buffalo, skating to a 6-0 shut out. John Vanbeiesbrouck, in his first game with the Panthers, made 27 saves to record the shutout. It didn't start out great as the first period would end with no goals at all. Then the captain, Mark Messier, would score twice in the second (12) to give the team a 2-0 cushion going into the 3rd. From there, the special teams took over as the PP would net 4 goals in the 3rd. Andersson (5th), Dahlin (5th), Bradley (2), and Czerkawski (6th). It was a rough night for the squad, though, as they watched Teppo Nummiene and Troy Murray both get injured by the dirty Sabres, who lead the league in PIM's with an average of more than 17 minutes a night over the next team. John Vanbiesbrouck improved his record to 7-6-1 on the season with the 27 save shutout in his first Panthers game. Mike Veron had the win, with Millen (8), Gillis (6) and Kontos (9) all scoring a pair of goals.
