TREMBLAY SECOND ALL-TIME!
Denver
Earlier this week, Mario Tremblay took one more step toward the NFHL Hall of Fame. One of the NFHL’s “Mount Rushmore”, Tremblay added a feather in his cap surpassing two legends in Darryl Sittler and former teammate Peter Stastny on the all-time points list.
GM Mike Smith said, “He’s one the greatest to ever play the game. No question. We asked Mario to play 3rd line centre this year to add stability through the line up. He produced so much that I went to Coach (Savard) and told him we need to let the horse run free. It sparked the trade for JR as he can now fill the 3rd C role and moving Klima opened up a spot on the top line for Tremblay. It’s his final season. The the big dog eat”.
Second is as high as he will go on the points list as Wayne Gretzky will continue his production long after Tremblay retires. However, Tremblay does hold a record that has yet to be reached by Gretzky. Tremblay is the NFHLs leader in career assists sitting at 1088 and is poised to become the only player to reach 1100 in their career to date. That’s 51 ahead of the Great One. Tremblay said of the feat, “Its fun to see how it all shook out at the end of the day. I’d surely bet that personal accolades do not matter much to the guys at and near the top of that list. It just happens. We go and play the game we love, as hard as we can, for as long as we can. I’m happy to still be at my best as I reach the finish line”. |
