GM SMITH SQUASHES RUMOURS, “HRUDEY’S OUR GUY”

With the wild 48 hours of trades in the NFHL, including two blockbuster deals, GM Mike Smith was quick to douse the fire that rumoured him to be in the mix for Hasek. Smith said, “We’ve got the reigning back to back Vezina goalie in our crease. Why that would even be a topic of conversation is beyond me. Hrudey is our guy. In fact he is THE guy.”

Kelly Hrudey was on the ice practicing in the starters crease at morning skate. The Rockies are setting up for a match up with Hasek’s former team. It’s believe newcomer Mike Richter will suit up for his first game in Columbus. Hrudey spoke to reporters after the skate, “I was never approached regarding a trade. I know that our manager will have discussions with high profile players prior to engaging in trade talks. He’s been up front about everything since I’ve arrived in Colorado. I think my play dictates how important I am to the franchise. My job is to shut out any noise and stop the puck. I’ll continue to do so”.

Hrudey has been hot and cold this season looking incredible one night and then letting in 5 goals the next. It makes one wonder if the rumours may have been getting to him. With the big goalie swap concluded it’s likely the dust settles on this one and Hrudey gets back to Vezina form. Even with Colorado not acquiring Hasek, it’s a win for the club and the rest of the franchises in the Norris Division.

Smith concluded, “Hasek is a top tier goalie. I’m happy to see him move to Florida”.
