Flames and Sharks play another tight game

The Flames and Sharks have not played each other in a while but when they did, both affairs were quite tight.  After first beating the Sharks 4-2, they ended up losing the 2nd game 7-5. With a 1-1 record and 9 goals apiece the first game of a home and away series was a doozy to watch.

The first period was all about the Sharks offense.  Outgunning Calgary 14-6 in shots, Roloson would save all but 1 goal when the Sharks Dahlen scored his 28th while on the PP.

The 2nd period was Calgary's revenge, however.  The Flames peppered Olaf Kolzig's net with 15 shots, getting through 3 times. Butsayev ("Boots") scored his 18th on Bureau and Hamrlik passes early in the 2nd. San Jose would score another to take the lead but that would last only a few minutes until Tkachuk scored his 36th to tie it 2-2. 30 seconds later and this time it was Bureau with his 15th on passes from Plante and "Boots".

The 3rd period would start with a bang as twenty seconds in, Bureau scored his 2nd of the game again on passes from Plante and "Boots" . Down 4-2, the Sharks would then explode with 4 consecutive goals with Kerr scoring 2 himself and adding 2 assists.  The Sharks 5th goal would mark the end of the night for Roloson before Snow would make his entrance and allow a goal on the first shot he received. Snow would shut the door the rest of the way though, which allowed a last minute effort from the Flames young leaders. With just a few minutes left to the game Niedermayer, back from injury in the last game, scored his 13th on passes from Fedorov and Tkachuk while Trevor Linden would score the tying goal on the PP on passes from Quintal and Fedorov.

With 37 shots apiece, and both starters exited from the game, this offensive festival resulted in a 6-6 tie.

The next game will be the season series tiebreaker as the Flames host the Sharks a mere 2 days after today's tie.
