Bruins win third straight

The Boston Bruins headed into Montreal last night looking for their third straight win. They are battling to keep pace with the Hartford Whalers in the Adams Division race and need to win their games with the Whale holding two games in hand. Boston needed some strong defensive play and goaltending as they were outshot in this one but were able to skate away with a 3-2 win.

Expectations were high for Scott Young coming into this season, with last year seeming to be a breakout year for the 27-year-old. This year has been a disappointment; coming into last night's game, Young had only scored 14 after scoring 42 last season. Young opened the scoring in this one though, and seems to have found a little bit of a groove in the last 4 games. He is currently on a 4 game point streak, scoring in 2 straight. Evgeny Davidov scored a couple of minutes after though to tie it up. Shots were 10-7 Habs in the period but the game was tied up.

In the second, Sean Pronger scored the lone goal, giving Montreal the 2-1 lead after the second.

Theo Fleury scored his 29th of the season to tie it up and Jim Peplinski scored midway through the third to give the Bruins back the lead, a lead that they would not relinquish.

The Bruins really needed this win and got it. It wasn't pretty but they found a way, which is what good teams do.

Boston has a night off tomorrow before facing the Pittsburgh Penguins.
