Bruins Best Habs
The Montreal Canadiens have traditionally caused the Boston Bruins a lot of grief. They are an up-and-coming team with a lot of young stars that will be a thorn in the side of the Bruins for a lot of years to come. For now, though, the Bruins need to take care of business and get wins against them, and they did last night, besting Montreal 4-3.
Off-season free agent pickup Dave Manson scored his first of the season to open the scoring on a nice setup by Zdeno Ciger. Ciger, who was called up from Sandwich with the injury to Peplinski, has been filling in admirably with his game especially on the powerplay. Keith Tkachuk evened the game 10 minutes after in an evenly played period.
There was no scoring in the second, but it wasn't from a lack of opportunity. The Bruins pressed for most of the period but couldn't beat Chris Osgood who was outstanding for Montreal.
In the third, Owen Nolan sniped his 20th of the season to give the Bruins back the lead. Chris McAlpine scored under a minute after that and it was tied once again. With Rob Blake in the box former Bruin draft pick Mike Ricci scored his 8th of the season with under 4 minutes left to give the Habs the lead. Ziggy Palffy took it into his own hands after that. He scored his 19th and 20th on the dame shift with under 3 minutes left to put Boston up 4-3 . They held on to take pick up the two points.
"Ziggy wouldn't be denied on that shift," said the Bruin coach. "He is maturing right before our eyes."
The Bruins have a couple of nights off before they travel to Edmonton to face the Oilers.
