1988 Calgary Olympics Hockey Tournament

Day #2

Game 3 Czechs 2 Finland 3
Czechoslovakia jumped out to the early lead thanks to the Stastny brothers.  Anton scored early and Peter assisted on a late first period marker to give the Czechs the lead.  A lead they held for much of the game.  However, not the entire game.  Finland fought back in the third, scoring and early goal to tie it up, then their star, Jari Kurri, notched the winner in the final minutes to give the Finns the win in their opening game.

Game 4 World 4 Quebec 5
Team World isn't going to be a push over.  If last Olympics didn't prove it to all the participating teams, their opening game against Quebec sure did.  They didn't come away with the victory, but they did come away with a moral victory, staying with the mighty Quebecois right until the end, falling just a goal short.  But the French fire power proved too much as Quebec scored three consecutive goals to surge ahead in the third period and hang on for the win.  Willi Plett was a beast, though, assisting on all 4 World goals, equalling his point total from the 1984 Olympics, a feat that took him 5 games to accomplish.
