Bottom of the Barrel
New York Rangers 8 GP, 0 Points, 18 GF, 47 GA
The Rangers are looking like the worst team in the NFHL, again. Last season the Rangers tied the 1985 Boston Bruins for the least number of points in a season with 31. This years Rangers might just break that mark or come extremely close. The Rangers are also on pace to set a new record for fewest goals scored in a season. At some points things should turn around for the Rangers, but not this season.
Buffalo Sabres 7 GP, 2 Points, 21 GF, 49 GA
The Sabres have currently given up the most goals against with a game in hand over the New York Rangers. They might be the only team with a worse goalie tandem then the Rangers. Clearly in a major rebuild we should see the Sabres at the bottom of the barrel for the entire season.
Chicago Blackhawks 7 GP, 2 Points, 22 GF, 43 GA
The Blackhawks have some good young talent like Petr Nedved, Bryan Smolinski, and Bill Guerin, to name a few. Their goalies are the weak point, so it will be interesting to see if they decide to promote Nikolai Khabibulin at some point. This team should not remain in the bottom all season, but are they good enough to make the playoffs? Time will tell.
St. Louis Blues 7 GP, 2 Points, 20 GF, 30 GA
The Blues are off to a slow offensive start and find themselves in the bottom of the standings. They might need to shake things up, but if the Blues find their offense, they should be battling for a playoff spot in short order. They are a very well-rounded team with no glaring weaknesses.
Calgary Flames 8 GP, 3 points, 21 GF, 35 GA
The Flames have stepped up their play in the last 2 games going 1-0-1. They are battling the injury bug with 4 players out at least a week. The Flames look like a team that will be on the outside looking in come playoff time. They just do not have the depth that the top teams possess, and their goalie tandem leaves a lot to be desired. The Flames have a handful of good-looking prospects to build around, so they should not be down for long.
