Rivalries

Prior to the start of each season, two teams may agree to form a rivalry.  The rivalry will be a competition between the two teams during the regular season and potentially playoffs.  What that competition is based on will be determined by the two teams, but it must be something measurable by NFHL stats.  Possibilities include: winning the season series, winning a single game during the season series, having the leading point getter during the season series, etc.  Since rivalry conditions must be set prior to the start of the regular season, playoff conditions will not be permitted unless they are used as a tie breaker (for example, if their conditions are that the winner of the season series wins, but they end up tied, they can use a playoff series as the tie breaker.  Of course, if they don't meet in the playoffs, they would end up tied, unless another tie breaking condition was set.)

In addition to the conditions for the rivalry, the two teams must agree on a cash amount that each team will put up to go to the winner of the competition.  The minimum bet is $500,000.  The maximum bet is $2.0 million.  The league will match the amount each team bets.  Therefore, the pots will be a minimum of $1.5 million and a maximum of $6.0 million.  To ensure and promote participation, funds will not be deducted (of added) from a team's bank account until the end of the season.

To be eligible for the winnings, a team must have written at least one (1) PR specifically about the rivalry.  PRs written for the rivalry will still be eligible for Activity Points as usual and will count towards a team's weekly limit, and half-season PR requirement.  If the team does not write a PR for the rivalry, they are ineligible to win the pot and the other team will automatically win.  In addition to losing their bet, they will be fined an additional $1.0 million by the league.  If neither team writes a PR for the rivalry, funds from both teams will be deducted, and fined, and the funds will be used to pay for the Commissioner's next vacation.

The winning team is also highly encouraged to write a PR summarizing the rivalry and results.

If funds deducted from the team's payroll at the end of the season cause the team to go into the negative, a loan WILL be taken out to cover the debt and it will need to be paid back, with interest.

Teams may have a maximum of two (2) rivalry bets each season.

To form a rivalry, both teams must write the Commissioner agreeing to the rivalry terms and bet amount.  Acceptable rivalries will be posted on this page and tracked throughout the year.
